Trivia Recap – Oct. 20, 2016 – Wurst Bar

Our “core group” of ‘Pods visited The Wurst Bar Wednesday for our trivia fix with Stacy. No prizes this time, but we still have a 15-point lead over the second place team – aka “Team Pants” (not to be confused with More Beer Less Pants) and a 41-point lead over the third place team, Sabre Toothed Crotch Crickets.. There are three teams at our bar with 700-plus cumulative points as of now, and ours just reached 803. This puts us among the top ranks of all teams playing My Trivia Live in southern Michigan right now. But none of this means a darn thing – it really all boils down the ability to answer those pesky final questions! We didn’t happen to get it right this time. But we’ll get more into that in a bit, in the meantime, here are the other questions…
Round One
1. Animals – What animal name is used to describe an insincere display of emotions or fake tears? 5
2. Nicknames – What body part is used in Frank Sinatra’s nickname? 3
3. Fruit – Asian, Anjou and Concorde are varieties of what fruit? 1
Round Two
1. Literary Characters – Present in the title of a 1949 play, what is the occupation of Willy Loman? 5
2. History – Forty hours before committing suicide, whom did Adolf Hitler marry? 3
3. Casinos – What casino item means “little wheel” in French? For an extra three bonus points, what is the name of the largest hotel and most profitable casino in Atlantic City? Got this for 1, missed the bonus.
Round Three
1. Other Sports – Edison Arantes do Nascimento, once known as the best athlete in the world in his sport, is better known by what name? 5
2. TV – What actor played President Josiah Bartlet on “The West Wing?” 3
3. Movies – What singer appeared in his first starring role in the 1976 film “The Man Who Fell To Earth?” 1
Halftime – Match the autobiographies to the celebrities who wrote them.

2. “Little Girl Lost.”
3. “It Would Be So Nice If You Weren’t Here…”
4. “Never Have Your Dog Stuffed.”

Round Four
1. Museums – What US city opened a computer museum in 1979, which closed in 2000? 6
2. Celebrity Couples – What “Bond Girl” met her future husband Ringo Starr while on the set of the 1981 film “Caveman?” I actually saw this movie IN THE THEATER when I was 9. Funny when I was 9, but…kind of painful to watch now. But if you absolutely MUST see Ringo riding a dinosaur, this is the movie for you! 4
3. Customs – Shivaree is a custom involving what that has become all but forgotten in North America? 2
Round Five
1. Computers – What is the name of the chess-playing computer that won against Gary Kasparov? 6
2. Insects- The Colorado beetle destroys what crop? Miss for 2.
3. TV – Who was the first person to host the “Tonight Show?” 4
Round Six
1. Authors – Often called a “gossip monger,” what American author published unauthorized biographies of Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson, the Bush family, Oprah Winfrey, and Nancy Reagan, among others? Got this for 2 (Why did you second guess me on the wager, Brad?)
2. Africa – Seventy percent of what African country is made up of the Kalahari Desert? This is usually a strong category for us, but not on this night…we picked a country next door. Miss for 4.
3. Olympics – In what country does the Olympic flame begin its journey in the Olympics? 6
Finished these rounds with 57 points.
Standings- Twelve teams – scores 15 to 59 with Team Pants in first. We were in second with 57 points.
Final Category – Music Videos
Michael Jackson received a patent for anti-gravity shoes which he used during the filming of what music video? Missed this and bet it all. This put Crotch Crickets and another team in a tie for second. They had to answer how many total episodes produced of “The Wonder Years?” The other team managed to win the tiebreaker, which put them in second. Team Pants got it right. Until next time, which…is TBA. May be taking tonight off (not feeling well). 😦 As always, stay classy, Kitty Kelley!
