Trivia Recap – Nov. 16, 2016 – Johnny’s Grill

'A 'Pods "soloist" spectated at at @[469076589861494:274:Sporcle Live] venue tournament at @[265519880218776:274:Johnny's on the Lake] hosted by @[1328674860490956:274:Sporcle Live Host Elyse] Tuesday, eyeing not a prize or tournament spot, but simply wanting a front-row seat to seeing which team would advance to the league championship Dec. 3. As it were, that team wound up being @[401709313234240:274:More Beer Less Pants], with just two of their "core" players having been in attendance. I wound up finishing in fifth, thanks mainly to that first final question, for which I'd started writing down the answer before the question was finished being read.
Game One
1. Logos - What color is the "clapper" in the Taco Bell logo? Miss for 2.
2. The World Series - What former Yankee holds the career record for the most world series home runs? For nerd bonus, within one, how many World Series home runs did this person achieve? Missed both for 1.
3. Song Lyrics (I did my standard "please be '70s, '80s, early '90s "prayer") - Which chart-topping hit by Rihanna contains the lyrics "When the sun shines, we'll shine together Told you I'd be here forever?" Nope, prayer not answered. And isn't Rihanna a Fleetwood Mac song #datingmyself? Miss for 3. This game going DOWN like a cheap hooker making her rounds of dive bars...specifically their adjacent alleys. Not that anything like this ever happens...but if it does, hey, everyone has to try to make a living, don't they?
4. Brand Names - In the United States, Juicy Juice, Coffee Mate and Ice Mountain are brand names owned by what parent company? Thank you mom-in-law Willow for helping me get this! She talked so much about protesting Ice Mountain wanting to draw water from the Muskegon River (on which she and Mike's dad live) and mentioned their parent company many, many times. 10
5. TV Siblings - Prue, Piper, Phoebe and Paige are all sisters on what TV series that debuted in 1998? Never watched it. Miss for 4.
6. Bodies of Water - How many of the Great Lakes are located entirely in the United States? Needed a teammate or two for this one, miss for 5.
7. Authors - What children's author who has sold 400 million copies of their books said, "I'm happy to terrify kids?" Good guess for 8, took a huge risk here.
8. American History - What is the 12-letter word for a Northerner who moved to the south seeking business opportunities? 9
9. Movie Soundtracks - What 2000 Grammy-award winning soundtrack features the song "I am a man of constant sorrow?" 7
10. Video Game Characters - Desmond Miles plays a bartender and main protagonist in what video game series which debuted in 2007? Miss for 6, another of my teammates likely would have helped with this one.
Mystery - Before and After
1. HBO Show about a fictional baseball player named Kenny Power and a popular show depicting the Crowley family
2. Subtitle of Austin Powers' second movie and a Jim Carrey film featuring Carrey as a character with a split personality
3. Michael Jackson song used in a Pepsi commercial and X-Men character known as Phoenix or Marvel Girl
4. Band headed by Jerry Garcia and 1989 Robin Williams film
Missed #1, though I knew the part two of that question :(

'Pods moved up to fourth with 63, and MBLP finished in first with 78. And Then There was Fun and Slick Rock finished second and third (did not write down the points).
Game Two
1. Hockey - What is the name for the annual outdoor hockey game that was first held in 2008 and featured the Penguins and the Sabres? Miss for 4.
2. Crackers - What cracker introduced by Nabisco in 1934 has a name that was intended to conjure the image of wealth and glamour? 10
3. Medical Tools - A spirometer is used to measure information what what organ in the human body? Miss for 3.

7. Famous Paintings - Who painted Luncheon of the Boating Party - Cezanne, Renoir, Degas, or Monet? I confused this painting with one with the French name Dejeuner Sur l'herbe (Luncheon on the Grass, which has a naked woman in it), and picked the artist with a similar name. Miss for SEVEN.
8. Villains - Originally appearing in a 1960 film, what is the name of the character who was later played by Vince Vaughn in a 1998 film and Freddie Highmore in a TV series? Burped a bit on his name, but got it for 8.
9. Continents - Which continent has the lowest rate of precipitation with less than 7 inches per year? 6
10. Apps - What mobile messaging service was created by three students at Stanford and began under the name Peek a Boo? Got this for 1, clearly this slip would have been better used elsewhere!
Mystery - This Day in History

2. 1974 Chad Kroeger, guitarist and lead vocalist of what Canadian band born
3. 2002 release of what Harry Potter installment
4. 2006 Andy Warhol painting of what communist leader sold at auction for $17 million
As for the photo tie-in...I was thinking of going with an image from question 9 in game one (grammy winning soundtracks), but, drum roll...an actress named Heather it is! Us Heathers gotta stick together (we have a dying baby name after all). Fun fact - this actress pictured was offered a role in the film "Heathers" but her mother wouldn't let her take the role because it was too dark. Kept out of a future cult classic!
Missed 1, 2, and 4. Icky...
Standings - Seven teams, scores 26 to 56 with MBLP and Slick Rock tied for first. 'Pods were in fifth with 37 points.
Final Category - Award Winning Athletes (when I heard award winning I SO hoped it would be movies...sadly, no)
Emmett (check sp.) Smith and Franco Harris are two of the only running backs to win the Super Bowl MVP award. Name any one of the other five.
Miss...Long story short, MBLP got their tournament spot and will advance to the Central division Sporcle Live League Championship Saturday, Dec. 3. Our team advanced to the West division league championship via the "barhop" and are currently seeking warm bodies to occupy our table...more on that story as it develops, film at 11. As always, Go Pods, and stay classy, you people in that painting with the naked woman! Maybe someday THAT painting will be the correct answer!'
